Jon Heisserer's Bio
I've been playing and writing music for almost 20 years. I started Building Rome in 2003 and wrote, recorded, and engineered an album in my friend's basement. I put together a band and we did our best. In 2006, Building Rome recorded an E.P. in Chicago with producer Marc McClusky (Weezer, Bad Religion). After getting some label interest, we decided that the best way to respond would be to break up. So, during my time as a solo artist, I wrote a couple of songs with Ted Bruner (Katy Perry, My Darkest Days) and penned the rest of the album in my tiny apartment.
In 2009, I went into Sawhorse Studios with Jason McEntire and Steven Haigler (Pixies, Brand New) and recorded the third Building Rome album entitled "Nightmare". It was a humbling experience but I learned what it takes to make a tight record. Soon after, I put together a new band and we did an album release show at the Pageant in St. Louis MO. We went on to tour and play festivals like Warped Tour and SXSW, and played with bands such as The Offspring, Fall Out Boy, +44, Family Force 5, Tonic, The Ataris and more. I also got to hang out with Mr. Belding (Dennis Haskins) at a NACA showcase in Austin TX. He told me to follow my dreams. Classic Belding.
In 2010, after getting more label interest, we decided again that the best way to respond would be to break up. After taking some time off and getting a "real job" I decided to focus on making recordings. I began investing in equipment and obsessively learning how to use it. I decided that I was going to write a new album and record it myself. I also began taking on other bands and artists during this time. In 2013 I finally decided to make the jump and record full time. In 2016 I released an album under my own name and I'm working on many more with other artists. Oh, and in early 2016 I got to work with Steve Albini at Electrical Audio and it was tight.
